PT CEO's Blog/How To Build A Personal Training Empire [3 Foundations]

The firs thing to get out of the way is this is going to be fucking hard for you.

Stop reading if you are looking for the easy way out - this is not it, and thats not the mindset that will lead you to any sort of success.

Here are the 3 foundations that people miss (from my view) when it comes to building a personal training empire.

FOUNDATION 1: Building A Personal Training Empire Is A Business - Identify where you stand

Wow Luke - good fucking input.

You would think this is obvious right?

It's not.

Most of the people that I see trying to build a personal training empire fall into one of three categories.

  • They are either influencers, and have very little business acumen.
  • Are money hungry fucks that don't give a fuck about providing a legit service. (the more vanilla version of a biz opp-slanger.)
  • Or actually love fitness coaching and getting transformations for their clients, useless at building the business.

None of these situations work...

The influencer:

If you are an influencer with a-lot of followers chances are, from what I have observed, outside of your following you have no idea what the fuck to do.

Often for these guys the money they have made has much less to do with how good they actually are at getting the results for others, or building the business, and much more to do with the perception other people have of them BEFORE joining.

This is standing on the edge of a cliff.

The most nerve racking part about this one from what I have observed is that some of them think they actually know what they are doing, because of a passed result financially.

IE. because I made x00 thousand this year, I must know thing.

For most it is a mis-correlation..

The Money Hungry FUck:

If you are money hungry you might be able to drive the business, but without the person who actually cares...

The person who has passion and enthusiasm for the clients and their transformations...

There is no way to build a team THAT PRODUCES GREAT RESULTS.

The energy, spirit, soul, has to come from someone, and for it to be big, it has to be STRONG

The Person Who Just Loves Coaching:

Although conceptually much sweeter.

You are still AT MOST 51% of the equation.

This person is amazing at coaching clients and is passionate about it.

Is most likely under charging and

But thats it.

Very important.

But when it comes to a personal training empire.

It's only one of the ingredients.

First step is accurately assessing where you fall here...

If doing this doesn't make you slightly uncomfortable then you either have the tempermant of mother theresa or you are lying to yourself.

Hint: whichever on you are convincing yourself you are not, is the one you most likley are.

Keep reading you will learn that being any of these, actually is not a problem.

Being unaware of which one you are or where you lean..

that is the problem to avoid.

Onto the next foundation.

FOUNDATION 2: For A Personal Training Empire - All Components Must Be Covered By Someone

Key distinction here?
Someone...

Does not have to be you

The amount of people trying to do this alone or with the absolute cheapest payroll aka lowest level people possible is astounding.

"Yeah I have like 5 people working for me... they are appointment setters, and a video editor from _______"

This does not constitute a team.

Is it maybe a start - sure... but a BIG paradigm shift is still necessary.

You gotta be willing to invest in someone who is way higher level than you in the key missing area...

Someone who is bringing things to the table that you simply could not.

As we approach $30,000,000 in revenue now.. this lesson becomes more and more clear.

We now hire NO ONE if they aren't bringing something to the table, that no one in the company currently has.

Understanding this concept is why our company is so much further along than so many others.

One of the reasons we were able to get the company off the ground is because we covered multiple roles from the start..

Nikkiey (my gf and biz partner & face of WB) focused solely on the product, deliverable, and community.

While I focused solely on the building the business.

My money hungry fuckness and intensity did not tarnish the purity of the message and intent that was the serving the clients experience.

And her desire to coach and build an amazing customer experience was not stretched out of possibility by having to take on the responsibilities of making sure sales were happening, marketing was working, and the bills were being paid.

I think if you are trying to do this alone, this is a much more challenging feat to pull off.

For most people watching this..

That smartest thing you can do, is clarify your vision, and go link with someone who compliments you.

Find someone who can help you where you are weak and cut them in.

FOUNDATION 3: The Empire Is Built One Day At A Time - And Only Seems Grand In Hindsight

Feel like a schitzo fuck?

Yeah - I know the feeling.

If you are trying to do everything, everywhere, all at once.

Are making $10,000 and trying to figure out how to get to $10,000,000.

And deciding on what you should be doing today, right now, with cafffffeeeeeeiiiinnnnnee.

Your going to flip your fucking lid.

Heres 3 things to keep your shit straight:

1-While your resources are lean, growth will require conscious neglect.

What does this mean?

When your team is small, and you have more passengers than drivers on the bus.

What can be driven forward will often be one thing at a time.

And you always should be driving forward what your current bottle neck is.

This means that if you are struggling with sales you should go all in on fucking sales until you get some momentum.

In doing this your marketing, or coaching team, or cs might slip.

You have to let it.

Conciously.

Then you fix sales and you go back and improve what you had to conciously neglect.

This is neccessary when things are small.

You have to live to see another day.

Once your team is bigger and people are responsible for the different components this will happen at a lesser intensity than at the beginning but it is part of the process.

2-Knocking out one thing at a time, and making progress daily.

This plays off of point 1.

Doing one thing at a time feels slower, but is faster.

"Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" - Jeff Bezos (i think)

Think long lasting fixes.

Something that you can build to a termination point and then will work for (meaningful amount of time based on the stage you are at)

Ideally as things get bigger the solutions become less of band aids, and more of full on hip replacements or fucking stem cells.

At the beginning there will be lots of band aids.

Here is it the framework:

What is the biggest problem in the business right now?

Solve that problem.

Sounds like rocket science but you are probably making it way more fucking complicated than that.

Everyone would have more money if they truly did this, and would not get stuck nearly as often.

Just solve that problem, and then ask the question again, and repeat the process.

Your business never stops having a biggest problem.

3-Go deeper in everything that works.

When something is working don't ask yourself what else?

Ask yourself how more?

When things are working continue to push them.

Have outbound working?

Ok how can you 10x the volume.

Have paid ads owrking?

Ok how can you 10x the volume.

Have sales team working?

Ok how can you 10x the volume.

You will find expansion in the depth.

Most people go a mile wide and an inch deep.

I have been running the same funnel and am still just figuring out how to do it more today as I was 3 years ago.

I have booked 100,000 sales calls through it.. and still going for more.

We ran the same opt in page for 4 years - I never split tested it once!

Have had ads that are still running - 3 years later!

An empire is built brick by brick day by day.

Each day lay the brick your are laying...

As perfectly as a brick can be laid.

And soon you will have an empire!

There you have it!
